Treatment: Proposal for music video.

Helloooooooooo, here goes the final few touches before filming!

Proposed title/ song: Peter and the Wolf- Talk About You
Storyline: We follow a girl in her decision to attend a gig where there is an element of romance
between her and the lead singer
Characters: a girl, lead singer, guitarist, bassist, pianist, drummer, crown, boss and girl's friend
Setting: modern day/ the present, girl and lead singer's homes. gig venue, highstreet and
  restaurant
Length: approximately 30 shots and approximately 3minutes long

Format: MiniDV

Style
Genre: indie/pop
Mood: light and romantic
Camera work/ type of shots: a mixture because of the mystery surrounding the identity of
  the girl
Length of shots/ editing: the maximum time per shot us approximately 4 seconds
Movement and action: because we are coordinating lyrics and actions there is much
movement. This also supports the genre of music.
Visual qualities: black and white, camera angles
Use of music: in coordination with lyrics and action
Handling of narrative: slight parallel in action when the girl and lead singer pass in the
street without recognition. Each character has a distinct role to play as we only have   several protagonists. There is great enigma surrounding the girl as we do not see her
face until the end of the video. The climax is at the end when the lovers meet.

Target Audience: tween, teen and young adults

Technical aspects
Production methods: We will all share filming and directing, however Liv does not wish
  to feature in the video
Equipment: camera, lights, instruments
Locations: highstreet (Hereford/ London), gig venue (possibly media room), houses (Liv
  and Rache's houses)

Resources
Times: approximately 1 week filming, 2 weeks editing
Costs: petrol to Hereford, (MacDonald's when there!!), flowers?, wine bottles?

Rationale
Why the video is worth making: The use of colour, which also emphasises the mystery
surrounding the girl. Our chosen band is releasing an album soon so we may aid
some recognition. Also, our storyline/ choice of song and characters make it
  believable.

30 seconds to mars - from yesterday music video analysis

Hey Guys.
Too help us with our video I'm going to do some analysis on 30 seconds to mars from yesterday.

Artist: 30 Seconds to mars
Song: From yesterday

Director: Jeff Seibenick

30 seconds to mars is a alternative metal/ hard rock band. usually in rock bands music videos they have a story line and plot. 30 seconds to mars continues this idea when their story is set in China (the first ever american group to film in china for there music video).

The video shows four warriors (the band) in china getting prepared to fight with other samurai warriors in a all for all battle against each other. The film starts off with the palace in china being all perfect when they walk to there changing rooms to get into there armor. Once the fight begins, the audience start seeing the sins of the palace and realize its not a great place after all. At the end we see all four members of the band left on the fight arena with swords to each others throats and they just stop and walk away together. This music video was and probably still is the most expensive music video ever made so far making up to $13 million.

Through out the movie there are lots of close ups of the band but not many notion of looking apart from one scene where you see the main singers chest as he's changing from a robe to the samurais armor.

From Yesterday is narrative based as there is a story to it and an underlying meaning, This music video is loosely based on "The Last Emporer"

Throughout out the music video we can't tell that theres any Intextual Referances as apart from "The Last Emperor" But we are sure that there is some Intextual Referances of movies which we haven't seen to link it too.

I hope you enjoyed our analyisis.

Happy New Year!!

OK, so back to work. Over the holidays we've been think about ideas for our video and come up with this:

During the first chorus, an actress acts out the actions described in the lyrics. We never see her face and there would be a mixture of close ups and long shots. Also she would be in black and white.
During the cho
rus, we would be introduced to the band, in colour and see the emotion on the lead singers face who is longing for the actress in the chorus.
During the second verse we would be back on the actress (in black and white) going about her daily routine and during the second chorus we would be with the band again.
After this point there would be swapping between actress and band and the respective black and white and colour.
During the final chorus, the actress would find the location of the band and reunite with the lead singer, in colour.

Possible locations for this are:
  • a flat overlooking a town- the bedroom, bathroom and kitchen
  • a busy high street
  • a minimalist recording studio.
I hope you like the idea!
